Welcome to the British Chen Style Tai Chi College 

Tai Chi , or Tai Chi Chuan to give it its proper name, is a combination of:-

  • The Principles of Yin and Yang (opposite yet complimentary)
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine
  • Breathing techniques known as "Qi gong"
  • Martial Arts Movement
  • Relaxation

The British Chen Style Tai Chi College has been running  Tai Chi classes for over 10 years, in Bury, Oldham and Manchester, teaching authentic Chen Style Tai Chi. We also teach 24 Step Yang Form and Wild Goose Qigong. See the "Classes" page for more details.

We have been established since 2000 under the guidance of Master Liu Yong, Indoor Student of Grandmaster Chen Zheng Lei.  A convenient location for Heywood, Prestwich and Ramsbottom, our Tai Chi Class in Bury Town Centre is a central location with free car parking opposite!

Master Sue Johnson, Principal Instructor has been practising Chen Style Tai Chi in Manchester since 1990 and can offer tuition based on her years of experience. She makes regular trips to China to update her skills.

Some of her Bury Tai Chi classes have been running for more than 10 years and she also teaches Wild Goose Qigong in Bury! There are Bury Tai Chi classes to suit all levels of students. Senior Coach John Chang has also a wealth of teaching experience to offer our students in the Oldham area.  We have Tai Chi classes in both Bury and Oldham for:-

  • Over 50's with Age UK Bury.
  • Advanced - including weapons and Pushing Hands
  • Corporate Sessions
  • Instructor Training

British Chen Style Tai Chi College students from our Bury Tai Chi classes have represented the UK in Tai Chi meetings in China 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2009! We have also won medals in National competitions in the UK. Introducing  "Health Chi "

Health Chi is a system of gentle movements based on the principles of Tai Chi and Chi Kung (Qigong). Ideal for those who are not very mobile, elderly or very inactive, Health Chi includes gentle stretching, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques.

Mostly done in a standing posture it can also be practised from a chair for those with limited mobility. It improves joint mobility, flexibility, posture and breathing. It can also help to lower blood pressure and aid depression and anxiety.

Beginner Tai Chi Classes

We all have to start at the beginning and we have all been there at some stage. You will find our Tai Chi Classes in Bury, Oldham and north Manchester adopt a patient, informal teaching method. All you need to do is turn up and have a go! Your balance and co-ordination will improve as you learn, as will your leg strength and general health.
