Cheselden Continuing Care Ltd is an independent organisation of clinical experts. We exist to help people with serious, long-term health conditions access the NHS funding to which they’re entitled.

We are the UK’s leading authority on NHS Continuing Healthcare and NHS-funded Nursing Care. Our aim is raise public awareness of these funding packages, so that everyone who could qualify for funding has their care needs assessed and reviewed correctly.

What we do

Cheselden provides independent advocacy services to individual patients and their families. These include advising on the appropriate level of NHS funding and reviewing the patient’s care needs using our own bespoke screening tool that is based on the National Framework.

We also work closely with care homes, the NHS, local authorities and the private sector to provide specialist information and advice on NHS Continuing Healthcare and NHS-funded Nursing Care, and to review patients’ eligibility for funding.

As experts in elderly care, Cheselden can also help individuals and their families explore the self-funding and care home options available to them if they don’t qualify for NHS funding.

Continuing Care

Continuing care is a general term describing care provided over an extended period of time to meet a person’s physical and/or mental health needs that have arisen as a result of disability, accident or illness. As an umbrella term, it can refer to care provided under both the NHS Continuing Healthcare and NHS-funded Nursing Care funding packages.

NHS Continuing Healthcare

This term is used to describe continuing care for patients aged over 18, where the care package has been arranged and funded solely by the NHS because the individual has been identified as having a ‘primary health need’.Read more

NHS-funded Nursing Care

NHS-funded Nursing Care is funding paid by the NHS directly to a care home for care provided to residents by registered nurses employed by the home. Since 2007, NHS-funded Nursing Care has been based on a single band rate. Read more

The National Framework for NHS Continuing Healthcare and NHS-funded Nursing Care

The National Framework is a document published by the Department of Health. It sets out the principles and processes to be used in England to identify if a patient qualifies for NHS Continuing Healthcare or NHS-funded Nursing Care. Read more
